Midi cable or usb cable for m-audio torq xponent?
I have an m-audio torq xponent dj controller and it has two midi connections. (I'm guessing for in and out) But the controller already came with a usb cable.
My mac does not have a midi connection so I would need a midi to usb cable. Should I just get a midi to usb cable also?
Or should I just stick with the usb cable that it came with?
Also last question what is the midi cable for?
Thank you!!!
MIDI is just information. Those controls on the Xponent are pre-mapped to send certain MIDI information so that Torq (The DJ software) will make the same movements in the program to the moves you make with the Xponent. You could even remap all the controls on the Xponent so that every button or knob does something different (like the crossfader controlling Deck B panning).
The Xponent is nothing more than a Midi Controller and can control other things aside from Torq. For example, if you have Pro Tools Open and you want a volume fader in Pro Tools to move up and down from the Xponent fader control, you can map it to the MIDI signal being sent from the Xponent.
The same goes for external MIDI devices, so if the software or hardware that you want to control has a MIDI input, that is when you would use the MIDI OUT of the Xponent. Since you are using the USB cable, that is the main MIDI connection, so when the Xponent is plugged into the computer, there's no need to use the actual MIDI IN or OUT port.
Does the mono 365 DJ pack fit the m-audio torq xponent?
The width of the Xponent is 18" and the bag is slated to handle up to a 17" laptop. I'm not sure how much the bag will actually give to allow for that extra space, but it is usually not a good idea to cram a 900 dollar controller into a bag that it isn't meant for. Your best bet would be to call the company that makes the bag and tell them the specs (size) of the Xponent and ask them outright if it will fit. This way if it doesn't, they owe you your money back. Get the specs for the Xponent at m-audio.com.
