Best way to install a stereo in my boat?
And what kind of watt speakers do I need to have good sound? I'm not looking for something that you can hear on the other side of the lake. Just something with decent sound, even over the engine noise.
I know how to do all the wiring. The only part I'm not sure about is cutting the fiberglass, I've been told it'll crack if you don't do it right. Any ideas on cutting holes for the stereo, and speakers? Its a 1 year old 18ft bowrider.
You'll need to install marine grade speakers or at the very least, polypropylene coned speakers. Anything other than that, the speakers won't last due to the moisture. To cut the openings, you'll need to get the proper size "Hole Saw" from Home Depot. Size of the saw will be dependent on the size of the speakers of course. Be sure to inspect the area behind the place that you're thinking of cutting the hole first! Make sure that it can handle the speakers (depth), and that you're not cutting a structural area. Also, when you drill the holes for the mounting screws, be sure to use a chamfer bit to taper the hole, this will reduce cracking the gel coat and splitting the fiberglass.
Is there an easy/cheap way to convert stereo to a five channel speaker amp?
I just got a new Surround Sound setup but I have an older tv that only has left and right audio output.
and when i say cheap im hoping for maybe a 20 dollar thing
First of all, nothing you can do at this point will give you true five channel surround sound - not for 20 bucks anyways. However, most surround sound systems have a pseudo surround sound setting that will take the left and right audio outputs of your TV set and try to recreate surround sound from it. It may or may not be to your liking but you would have to try it to see.
